Tour Introduction

Rwanda’s main tourism attractions include wildlife viewing, cultural experiences, and historical sites. On this tour, we are visiting the prominent attractions including Volcanoes National Park, a home for the unique Mountain Gorillas and the Endangered Golden Monkeys. We visit Akagera National Park to see the African Big five as well as other savannah wildlife. We go to Nyungwe NP, a forest known for chimpanzee trekking and canopy walks. When you visit Rwanda, you can’t miss lake Kivu, a shared water body with the neighboring DRC; along the lake you relax and learn about agro-tourism by visiting tea and coffee farms and experience the processing from plantation to cup! Additionally, the Kigali Genocide Memorial and cultural villages provide insights into Rwanda’s history and traditions that you are not missing on this tour.

Site To Visit

Akagera-Volcanoes NP-Lake Kivu & Nyungwe NP

Rwanda is located slightly south of the Equator, in the heart of Africa. It is possible to discover diverse wildlife and exceptional landscapes in the space of 10 to 15 days. The Akagera savannah park is home to the Big 5 of Africa while the Volcanoes National Park is home to Mountain Gorillas and Golden Monkeys. Nyungwe NP, being one of the oldest tropical forests in Africa, is endowed with rich biodiversity, notably Chimpanzees as well as 12 other species of primates, including the L’Hoest Monkey, endemic to the Albertine Rift; it is also home to more than 300 species of birds, 29 of which are endemic to the Albertine Rift region, including the Red-collared Mountain Babbler which is quasi-endemic to Nyungwe. Here is a map showing national parks of Rwanda.

Akagera National Park

Akagera national park is the ideal place to be for any visitor who wishes to see wildlife animals in Rwanda, especially the Big Five animals. The national park sits on a 1,122 square kilometer piece of land and has over 8,000 large wildlife animals including elephants, lions, rhinos, leopards, and buffalos.

Volcanoes National Park

Situated in the far northwest of Rwanda, Volcanoes National Park protects the steep slopes of this magnificent mountain range – home of the endangered mountain gorilla and a rich mosaic of montane ecosystems, which embrace evergreen and bamboo forest, open grassland, swamp and heath. Tracking endangered mountain gorillas through the mysterious intimacy of the rainforest, alive with the calls of 200 species of colorful birds and chattering of the rare golden monkey, is only one of the truly unique experiences in the area.

Nyungwe National Park

Nyungwe is one of the oldest rainforests in Africa, and the largest expanse of forest in Rwanda, covering 1,019 km2 of dense Afromontane forests, bamboo-covered slopes, grasslands and wetlands. The park feeds two of the world’s largest rivers, the Congo and the Nile, and provides a significant portion of Rwanda’s fresh water. Over 1,100 recorded plant species, 345 bird species and 85 known mammal species, including 13 of Africa’s primates – notably, chimpanzee, Ruwenzori black-and-white colobus and L’Hoest’s monkeys – are found in this exceptional landscape.

Lake Kivu

Lake Kivu is one of the African Great Lakes. It lies on the border between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda, and is in the Albertine Rift, the western branch of the East African Rift. At Lake Kivu, you have the option of going on bird walks, kayaking, windsurfing, jet-skiing, traditional fishing, visiting tea and coffee farms, Munezero boat cruise, cycling, Congo Nile trail hikes etc.
