Birding Rwanda

If you are you attending the AFSA2024 International Conference in Kigali (from 23rd to 28th September 2024), you can spare some days (hours) to discover the unique nature, wildlife and culture of Rwanda and East Africa!

  1. Trekking Mountain Gorillas:Trekking Mountain Gorillas in Rwanda is the easiest trek in the whole region. We have a package of a day tour to trek the famous Mountain Gorillas in Volcanoes National Park-Rwanda and discounted cost for participants is granted if you have an official invitation letter (normal cost are also available); We are leaving the hotel in Kigali at 4.30am and drive to the headquarters of Volcanoes National Park. After coffee and briefing on trekking, we are allocated to the group of Gorillas. After trekking, we have a late lunch before we drive back to Kigali (expect to be back at 6pm).

  1. We have a range of other tours from one day to 5 days:
  • A day (or half day) tour of Kigali City:When you are around, don’t miss to discover the cleanest city in Africa and learn the history of Rwanda and buy souvenirs! We organize a day (or a half day) tour to witness how the country has recovered after the 1994 Genocide of Tutsi; we visit Kigali Genocide Memorial, the famous Kimironko Market and top souvenirs shops. The tour starts at 8.30 to 4pm (full day) or to 1pm (half day).

  • A day to trek Golden Monkey: Volcanoes National Park has so many excellent opportunities to do and see spectacular sights but participating a Golden Monkey trek is one of the experiences that are unique to this area as these monkeys live nowhere else in the world. Our tour start from the hotel in Kigali, at 4.30am, and we drive to the headquarters of Volcanoes NP. After coffee and briefing on the trek, we drive to the group of monkeys (1 hour walk). Trekking goes until lunch time, after lunch we drive back to Kigali to reach around 4pm.

 

  • A day to encounter the Big 5 of Africa: We organize a day trip to Akagera National Park to see the African Big Five as well the savanna wanders. We leave Kigali at 5.00am to be in Akagera at 8am. After a cup of coffee, we proceed with safaris and wildlife viewing and we can see elephants, buffaloes, giraffe, lion, etc. and we are back in Kigali at 8pm.

  • Two days of Safaris in a savanna park “Akagera National Park”: Akagera national park, a unique savanna park in Rwanda, is bordering Tanzania in the east. The park hosts the big Five of Africa and over 500 bird species. Our tour starts from Kigali at 5am. We start our safaris and birding tour at 8am and we have a sunset boat to see flocks of birds and watering animals.Our second day, we starts early morning; after breakfast we take off with our packed lunch for a safaris and birding as we drive back to Kigali A99arive around 7pm)

  • A day of birdwatching around Kigali City: With its location in equator region and a variety of habitat, Rwanda is a paradise birding destination; with over 700 bird species. Wetlands around Kigali host special birds especially papyrus-dwellers beside the threats that these wetlands are facing.
    Our birding day starts after breakfast; we drive to wetlands of Bugesera to see Papyrus Canary, Papyrus Gonolek, Carruther’s Cisticola, etc. After lunch, we drive to Nyandungu Urbna Wetlands Eco-tourism Park or Umusambi Village and the target species are White-collared Oliveback. We stop our birding around 5.30pm when we drive to the hotel or capture the evening flight.

 

  • A day to hike Bisoke Volcanoes in Volcanoes NP: Mount Bisoke is one of the volcanoes found within the Virunga ranges of mountains; with a height of 12,175 ft and the summit has a crater lake at the very top. Our trip to hike this stunning volcano starts at 4.30am from Kigali to be at the park headquarters at 7am. Hiking starts at 9am until 3pm. After a late lunch we drive to Kigali (expect to be back around 7pm).

  • Five days to explore the nature, culture, agriculture and wonders of Rwanda: With a variety of habitat, the countryside has special attractions and development activities not to miss when you are luckily visiting this country. Classic game drives, nature walks, cultural experiences, hiking, agro-tours and lakeside relaxation—these are just some of the ways to spend your 5 days in Rwanda to cover different corners of the country. We are starting from national museums to learn the Rwandan culture and life of Rwandese before and after colonial period. We proceed with trekking primates (Chimpanzees and Golden monkeys or Mountain Gorillas). You are also experiencing the plantation, harvesting and processing of tea and coffee, the main cash crops in Rwanda. We end our tour either in Kigali or at the airport if you have an evening flight.

 

  • Three days of Safaris and trekking Mountain Gorillas in Rwanda: Our tour starts the tour early morning to Akagera NP with a safaris tour to see the savannah animals and at 4.30pm we have a sunset boat to see watering animals and flocks of waterbirds. The second day, we have a game drive as we drive to Volcanoes National Park. The third day, we are trekking Mountain Gorillas (or Golden Monkeys) and after lunch we drive to Kigali to capture the evening flight

PS: Our tour are arranged from one person and the cost is estimated according to the number of people; the more we have more people on a tour, the more the cost reduces.
