Welcome to an extraordinary 10-day safari adventure and cultural tour offered by Birding & Educational Tours in Rwanda. Safari Itinerary
On arrival, you meet our driver-guide for greeting and briefing before we take you to the hotel for dinner and accommodation (Chez Lando Hotel)
We leave Kigali at 5.30am to be at the reception of Akagera NP at 8am. We have a morning birding and wildlife game drive to see different species of Cisticolas (Croaking, Tabora, Trilling, etc.) we can also see animals like Buffaloes, Zebra, Impala, etc. We break for lunch at the lodge ad at 4.30pm we have a sunset boat cruise to see flocks of waterbirds like Goliath Heron, Striated Heron, Black-crowned Night Heron, Rufous-bellied Heron, etc. We will also see crocodiles and hippopotamus; at 6pm we drive to the lodge for dinner and accommodation (Akagera Game Lodge)
After breakfast, we take off with our packed lunch from the south of the park and we go for our safaris towards the north. We target more game and wonders of Akagera i.e Giraffe, Topi, Buffaloes, etc; lunch is in the wild at Mihindi picnic area. After lunch, we continue our safaris and wildlife game drive towards the lodge in the north. After check in, we have a night game drive to try nocturnal birds i.e Square-tailed Nightjar and animals like lions, hyenas and Leopard; we return back at the lodge at 8pm and after dinner we go for accommodation (Karenge Bush Camp)
We start safaris and birding at 5.30am to meet the animals on the early morning hunting; we will also see the eary morning active birds. At 9am we drive back to the lodge for breakfast. At 10am, with our packed lunch, we have our birding and game drive as we are exiting and afternoon we drive to Kigali; accommodation and dinner are at Chez Lando
At 6am,we start birding in Bugesera to try Papyrus Gonolek, after lunch we drive to Nyungwe NP (6 hours drive) overnight is at Nyungwe Top View Hills Hotel (Medium). Nyungwe NP is a home to 13 prmates and about 300 bird species among which 27 are endemic to the Albertine Rift region including the quasi endemic to Nyungwe NP, the Red-collared Mountain Babbler.
After breakfast (at 6.30), we start morning birding around Uwinka reception and we can see many endemic to the Albertine Rift including Stripe-breasted Tit, Rwenzori Batis, Regal Sunbird, etc. At midday, we stop for refreshment/lunch and resume birding at 2pm until 5:30. Overnight is at Nyungwe Top View Hills Hotel (Medium)
After an earlier breakfast (at 6.30), we drive to Bigugu trail and we try Red-collared Mountain Babbler. At midday, you stop for refreshment/lunch and resume birding at 3pm at Karamba trail to see Strange Weaver, Kivu Ground Thrush, Great-blue Turaco. at 6 we drive back to the lodge for dinner and accommodation (Nyungwe Top View Hills Hotel (Medium)
Trekking Chimpanzees starts at 5am; we leave the hotel with our packed breakfast and we go for trekking Chimpanzees. You know that Humans and chimps share a surprising 98.8% of their DNA! Trekking goes until lunch time, after lunch, we have an hour learning how tea is planted, harvested and processed. After tasting tea, we drive along Kivu belt road to Kibuye; accommodation at Cormorant Lodge
After breakfast we have a boat cruise to feel the breeze of the fresh lake and seethe islands of Lake Kivu. Se stop at Kinunu coffee washing station to understand how coffee is planted, harevested and processed. After lunch we proceed our cruise to meet the driver in Gisenyi before we drive to Volcanoes NP; u and then coffee plantation to learn the process from farm to cup. After lunch we proceed to Musanze, a Town of Mountain Gorillas. Accommodation is at dinner time (Ingagi Park View Lodge
Trekking Mountain gorillas is a lifetime experience not miss when you are in the region. Trekking starts with a registration at the park headquarters. After briefing and allocating to the gorillas group, we go for trekking. The visit goes until 1 to 2pm when we have a late lunch before we drive to the airport for evening flight; END
