Mukura Forest

Mukura Forest Reserve is one of Rwanda’s Afro-mountain forests and is found in the western side of Nile-Congo crest, in the western side of the country. The reserve is located in 1 hour drive from Kibuye city and 3 hours from Kigali city. The reserve was gazzeted as national reserve area in 1951 with 3000 ha. The forest is one of the remaining mountain forests with 7 Albertine Rift Endemic bird species and 2 species listed on IUCN threatened species: Grauer’s Rush Warbler (EN) and Kivu Ground Thrush (VU).
