8 Days Uganda-Rwanda Tours

shoebill This 8 days is one of the most enjoyable tours as it combines two countries  starting from Uganda and ending in Rwanda. Here you will enjoy Uganda’s amazing wildlife, view a variety of bird species especially Shoebill up to Rwanda where you do birding and chimpanzees tracking in Nyungwe NP.

Day 1: Landing to Entebbe and transfer to UWEC accommodation

Upon arrival at the Entebbe Airport, you meet our driver-guide who, after welcoming note, drives you to Bandas of Uganda Wildlife Educational Center (UWEC) where your accommodation and diner are booked.

Day 2: Searching of Shoebill at Mabamba and transfer to Mbarara Town

After the early breakfast, drive to Mabamba wetland where Shoebill is very easily seen. Searching this Stork goes up to 11am. The travel Kampala Mbarara is about 5 hours drive. Your accommodation is at Acacia Hotel Mbarara.

DAY 3: Birding at Lake Mburo and drive to Lake Bunyonyi/Kabale

After the early breakfast, we drive to Lake Mburo for game drive to view wild animals like Impala, Buffaloes, Topi, and Oribi etc. Lake Mburo is located at 30km of Mbarara and 150km to the border with Rwanda. After lunch at Mantana Safaris Lodge, Proceed to Lake Bunyonyi. Accommodation is at Bushara Island Camp.

Day 4: Birding at Bunyonyi Lake and transfer to Kigali

After the morning breakfast, we drive to Bunyonyi Lake. The lake lies in south western Uganda between Kisoro and Kabale close to the border with Rwanda. Here you take a local boat cruise and see a good number of waterbirds. After the morning birding, we drive to Kigali and stay at Star Hotel.

Day 5: Transfer to Nyungwe and visit to National Museum

After the morning breakfast, we drive to Nyungwe NP and have a stopover at Rwanda National Museum in Butare to learn more on history before and after colonial period. After lunch we proceed to Nyungwe NP to reach Gisakura Guest House around 6pm. Overnight at this Guest house.

Day 6: Full day birding in Nyungwe NP

red-collaredAfter an earlier breakfast, our driver guide takes you at Uwinka birding trails where you have a whole morning birding. Here you have an opportunity to see many species of birds including 27 which are endemic to the Albertine Rift region and the quasi endemic to Nyungwe NP, the Red-collared Mountain Babbler. Overnight at Gisakura Guest House.

 Day 7: Full day birding in Nyungwe NP

After an early morning breakfast, we take you to Gisakura for briefing then try again more endemic bird species including the wetland ones i.e Grauer’s Swamp Warbler. After lunch and break, we have an afternoon birding and stop at sunset. Overnight at Gisakura Guest House.

Day 8: Tracking Chimpanzees

After the earlier breakfast we track Chimpanzees in Nyungwe NP. The tracking starts very early at 5:00am and you are back to the hotel at lunch time. After lunch, we drive back to Kigali to catch up with the evening Flight. END OF THE SAFARIS
